This week sees actor, writer and producer Noel Clarke return to the big screen with his new movie Adulthood, the sequel to 2006's Kidulthood.

Written, directed and starring the thirty two year old Adulthood picks up six years after it's predecessor.

Sam has just been released from jail, having served 6 years for the manslaughter of rival Trife.

The film follows his journey over 24 hours as he is forced to confront the people he has hurt, and see first-hand the effects of his actions all those years ago.

Some have moved on, others are stuck with the repercussions of that night, but one thing’s for certain - everyone has been forced to grow up. As Sam struggles to deal with his guilt and adjust to the outside world, he also has to deal with those seeking revenge for Trife’s death.

As he is pursued through the streets of West London, he wonders if a new cycle of violence has started and if there is any way to bring an end to it as things start to escalate beyond his control.

Directing is new territory for Clarke with this project as Kidulthood he only penned the script and let Menhaj Huda take control behind the camera.

Kidulthood was met well critically, deprived Ladbroke Grove/Latimer Road area of Inner West London next door to Notting Hill, depicting well the difference between the two estates.

Away from these movies Clarke began his career in the theatre the Laurence Olivier Award for "Most Promising Newcomer" for his performance in the play Where Do We Live at the Royal Court Theatre in 2003.

He made the next move into television with roles in Casualty and Metrosexuality before landing the role of Wyman Norris in the revival of Auf Wiedersehen, Pet in 2002.

However it is his role of Mickey Smith in the revival of sci-fi favourite Doctor Who that has made him a household name.

Appearing in 'Rose', the first episode of the new series in 2005, Mickey is the boyfriend of companion Rose Tyler, played by Billie Piper.

He joins the crew of the TARDIS with tenth Doctor David Tennant and became the first black companion.

He left the series in the middle of series two but is set to return at the end of the current series.

Adulthood is released 20th June
