The Dark Knight

The Dark Knight

The Dark Knight is the greatest comic book movie that has ever graced the big screen - so much so to see it over looked for Best Picture was a travesty.

And while Christopher Nolan has been making more waves with Inception, which was just as great a movie, everyone has been waiting with bated breath for the next instalment of the Batman franchise.

There was some earlier doubts as to whether Nolan would be returning to the director's chair at all but those fears were washed away last year when he announced that he would be back.

Over the last few weeks new and very exciting names have been added to the cast list - Anne Hathaway as Catwoman being one of the major ones of note.

Tom Hardy is on board and Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon Levitt have been linked to The Dark Knight Rises this week.

So the question remains can The Dark Knight be topped?

Now, I don't know about you, but The Dark Knight was a comic book movie for adults it's dark subject matter and evil characters were a very refreshing change.

No one can forget Heath Ledger's remarkable performance as The Joker - the perfect opposition to Christian Bale's Batman.

The Dark Knight ticked so many boxes it's hard to see how anything can be improved upon - however Nolan would not return if he didn't think he could make a better movie.

David S. Goyer has been working on the script and a fabulous cast is being assembled, it seems that just about everyone wants to work with Nolan!

Shooting hasn't even got underway and I'm already super excited at what lies ahead for this franchise.

For The Dark Knight Rises to be just as critical and commercially successful then the strong dark  themes need to continue - which is highly likely.

The new characters also need to be as well rounded and intriguing as The Joker and Ra al Ghul have been in the past.

Christopher Nolan is a filmmaker that is not afraid to push the boundaries and bend the rules and I'm expecting a high quality movie that we will be talking about for years to come.

Roll on summer 2012!!!!
