Gone Baby Gone

Gone Baby Gone

Ben Affleck is back in the director's chair this week with his new movie Argo - which is set to be his most successful directorial outing to date.

The movie is already drowning in critical praise and it is expected to be a major contender when the awards season roles around... is this Affleck's time for more Oscar glory?

To celebrate the release of the movie we are taking a look at some of Affleck's best work over the years and today Gone Baby Gone is under the spotlight.

Gone Baby Gone was the directorial debut for Affleck back in 2007 - 2008 in the UK when the film was pushed back - and it was to be the film that turned Affleck's career right around.

The movie was a big screen adaptation of the Dennis Lehane novel of the same name and saw Affleck show off his writing skills once again.

If anyone raised an eyebrow when Affleck went behind the camera their opinion quickly changed as Gone Baby Gone was one of the most critically lauded movies of the year.

He delivered a powerful, emotional as well as a provocative movie that was unpredictable as well as grounded in reality.

And it was this reality that really packed a punch as this could have been a story that was ripped from the headlines.

Affleck really brought Boston to life on the big screen as he captured the local textures and colours and all this just added to the feeling of being real.

Casey Affleck, Michelle Monaghan, Morgan Freeman and Amy Ryan were on the cast list as they all delivered top notch performances as Affleck drew the best from them.

Casey Affleck in particular is superb in the lead role as he is the movie's backbone and finds himself on a moral journey as well as a police investigation.

Amy Ryan's performance was recognised with an Oscar nomination but this was a movie that really should have gained more awards that it did - which is a major shame.

Gone Baby Gone is one of the best directorial debuts of all time as Affleck showed that Good Will Hunting was not just a fluke.

He not only delivered a powerful script but his crisp and sharp direction turned what could have been a run of the mill crime movie into something very special.

This was the moment where Affleck's movie career changed forever and he is now a major talent in

Argo is released 7th November
