With Halloween approaching it isn’t always easy to find a scary film suitable for young children to enjoy. This year, however, the quintet of irresistible talking puppies, Disney’s lovable 'Buddies,' are back for a ghoulish good time in a fantastic all-new Halloween-themed adventure, Spooky Buddies.

Spooky Buddies is a spooktacular feature-length movie that treats audiences to a celebration of friendship and teamwork. To celebrate the 10 October Disney DVD release, we take a look at ten Halloween films that are suitable for all the family to enjoy.

Spooky Buddies (2011)

Overflowing with trick-or-treat action, the ‘Buddies’ films are favourites of families and kids of all ages.  Spooky Buddies continues the overwhelmingly popular franchise featuring the adorable talking puppies, with action, laughs and fast-paced adventure. 

In this latest movie caper, the lovable canine clan find themselves in a mysterious mansion, with no less than the fate of the world hanging in the balance as they must stop a dastardly warlock from his plans for world destruction. 

Hocus Pocus (1993)
 
Hocus Pocus stars Bette Midler and Sarah Jessica Parker as two of three Sanderson sisters - witches that are brought back to life by Halloween hating new-boy-in-school, Max.

Max must try to stop the Sanderson sisters with the help of a pretty classmate and an immortal black cat called Binx in this fun family film that appeals to all ages.
 
Monsters Inc (2001)

In Monstropolis, the residents use the energy created from scaring children to keep the city powered. However, there is nothing the monsters fear more than being contaminated by the germs of human children.

When a child crosses over from her bedroom into Monstropolis, top scaring team Sulley and Mike are left do all they can to save their city , or their blushes, in this Disney Pixar classic.

Pooh’s Heffalump Halloween Movie (2005)

Everybody loves Winnie the Pooh and there is nothing Pooh loves more than honey!  Halloween is the ultimate chance to get all the goodies that sweet-toothed Pooh desires.

As Pooh and friend Lumpy set off for their first time ever trick-or-treating, they find themselves up against a fearsome Gobloon on the loose in Hundred Acre Wood. 

Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005)

Britain’s best loved plasticine man and dog made the leap to the big screen in this stop motion adventure. Wallace and Gromit, now running a pest control business, have to deal with the creepy ‘Were-Rabbit’, a deadly giant bunny, in order to save the day, and for Wallace to win the heart of the lovely Lady Campanula "Totty" Tottington (voiced by Helena Bonham-Carter).

Casper (1995)

Based on the classic comic series, the big screen version sees the friendly ghost enter the real world.

The computer generated effects used to Casper to life, as well as his three uncles, Stretch, Stinkie and Fatso, were astonishing when it was first released, and still hold up today. The film also features a young Christina Ricci is an early role.

Ghostbusters (1984)

Who You Gonna Call? Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Sigourney Weaver starred in this classic 1980s comedy about New York’s premiere ghost catching service.

Its blockbuster success led to a franchise including cartoon, toys, comics and video games, but the original film is still the best.

The Witches  (1990)

Roald Dahl’s classic novel was made into a film in 1990, and is just as scary as the original book.

It’s the story of a young boy called Luke, who moves to England to live with his grandmother, and becomes the target of a group of evil withes who want to turn him in to a mouse! The creepy special effects were done by Jim Henson, creator of the muppets.

Coraline (2009)

This creepy 3D stop-motion film comes from the people who brought you the equally-creepy The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Coraline (voiced by Dakota Fanning) wanders through a secret door in her new house ends up in a parallel world, populated by evil versions of her parents and teachers!

The Haunted Mansion (2003)

Eddie Murphy stars as work obsessed Jim Evers in this comedy horror based on the Disney them park attraction.

Jim takes his family along to a mansion for a vacation-cum-business trip, only to find that the mansion is haunted.
