Not only is Australian actor Luke Ford following in the footsteps of Shia LaBeouf and Ben Barnes as being one of the new action heroes of the summer he is a talent that we should be keeping a close eye on.

He bursts onto the big screen this week in the role of Alex O'Connell in the third The Mummy instalment The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.

This time, the O'Connells must stop resurrected Han Emperor (Jet Li) awoken from a 2,000-year-old curse who threatens to plunge the world into his merciless, unending service.

But when dashing adventurer Alex O'Connell, who dropped out of sch is tricked into awakening the ruler from eternal slumber, the reckless young archaeologist must seek the help of the only people who know more than he does about taking down the undead: his parents.

As the monarch roars back to life, our heroes find his quest for world domination has only intensified over the millennia.

Striding the Far East with unimaginable supernatural powers, the Emperor Mummy will rouse his legion as an unstoppable, otherworldly force...unless the O'Connells can stop him first.

Yet while many movie goers may not be familiar with his name he is beginning to catch the attention inside the industry after his turn in Kokoda in 2006.

And while Ford may be a newbie to the action movie he beat off much more established actors when he screen tested with Fraser to win the role.

Later this year he will star as Toni Collette's autistic son Charlie in The Black Balloon. The film premiered at this year's Berlin Film Festival where it won the Crystal Bear.

And like Shia in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull do not be surprised if it is Luke Ford that possibly carries The Mummy franchise forward.
