Alvin and the Chipmunks 2: The Squeakquel

‘Munkday’ the 21st of December sees the release of Alvin and the Chipmunks 2 The Squeakquel, which brings back our favourite furry brothers, Alvin, Simon and Theodore.

In case you didn’t know, the trio comprises a rodent pop sensation, so to celebrate the release, we present ‘Keeping it in the Family’ - a comprehensive low-down of music-making families.

Hanson

Three brothers- Isaac (who wrote his first song in the third grade), Taylor (who carried a plastic sword around when he was younger) and Zac (loves root beer, jelly and chewing gum) - are collectively known as the band Hanson.

They have had their music referred to as ‘genius’ by none other than Bono, driven the car from Speed 2 in their video MMMBOP, and has their first hit at the tender ages of 16, 14 and 11in 1997.

The Cheeky Girls

Cheeky Girls are the pop music duo of twin sisters Monica and Gabriela Irimia, from Transylvania in Romania. They shot to fame on Popstars the Rivals, and ended up releasing four singles and one album in the UK, and also touring Europe and Asia.

Their biggest hit, The Cheeky Song (Touch My Bum) peaked at number 2 and spent five weeks in the UK top 5! Their mother is their songwriter and manager. Gabriela is ten minutes older than her sister!

The Jonas Brothers

The Jonases are all committed Evangelical Christians and were homeschooled by their mother. To signify their vow to abstain from premarital sex, on their left-hand ring finger they all wear purity rings, which have been openly mocked by Russell Brand.

Still, they must be doing something right, as they are all millionaires and girls all over America, even the world, are crazy mad for them.

Right Said Fred

Right Said Fred were founded in 1989 by brothers Richard Fairbrass and Fred Fairbrass from East Grinstead, and later joined by their close friend Mark Hollins. Their 1991 single, "I'm Too Sexy", spent six weeks at number two, and reached number one in the U.S.!

The Jackson 5

The Jackson 5 (also spelled The Jackson Five or The Jackson 5ive, and later known as The Jacksons) were an American popular music family group from Gary, Indiana. During their six and a half-year Motown tenure, The Jackson 5 were one of the biggest pop-music phenomena of the 1970s.

The Osmonds

The Osmonds are a Utah born music group with a long and varied career! Devout Mormons, their religious values have influenced their careers. Older brothers George Virl Osmond, Jr. (Virl) and Tom Osmond were born deaf and did not originally perform, although they later made occasional appearances, most notably on the family Christmas specials from the 70s.

Bee Gees

The Bee Gees were originally a singing trio of brothers Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb. The trio were successful for most of their forty years of recording music! The three brothers co-wrote most of their own hits, as well as writing and producing several major hits for other artists.
