Marion Cotillard Talks Inception

Inception looks set to be one of the most intriguing movies of the summer as Christopher Nolan returns to the director's chair for the first time since the success of The Dark Knight.

Marion Cotillard joins the all star line-up as she sees her Hollywood career go from strength to strength with Public Enemies and Nine in the last twelve months.

What makes this film so unique?

Well, I think the dream state is a pretty unknown area where everything is possible. And Chris Nolan really achieved to create a story based on the subconscious, the mind.

He mixed it with an action movie. And a very deeply emotional connection to the whole project. And it's based on... his imagination.

And I think he has a world inside that is so rich, that makes him one of the most interesting directors of our time. And the way he shares his vision of the world, mixed with his world, is absolutely amazing.

What do you think will make the audience connect with the characters in this film?

It appeared to me, when I saw the movie, that almost all the characters, Cillian Murphy's character and Leo's character and Ellen Page's character, they are deeply connected to their emotions.

And that's really what takes you into their story. And that's why you feel very connected to all those people.

What was it like to shoot in so many different countries and how does that serve the film?

Well, I had one day in Paris, and most of it for me was in Los Angeles. But I think what's interesting in the fact that they shot in so many countries is... there are so many layers on this movie.

So many layers inside of each character. So many layers in a dream. And so, because everything's possible, you can really... The story is large.

And that's why you travel in so many countries as well. Because you have energies from different places that creates a very special place in your dream.

Do you remember your dreams and how important are they to you?

I do, I do remember almost all my dreams. And it's a special place in someone's life, the dream state. And I think it's...

I remember, I stopped remembering my dreams for a while, and then when it came back, I felt lucky to have my memories of dreams back. I think it's a very interesting place to explore a part of yourself.

Inception is released 16th July.
