My Week With Marilyn

My Week With Marilyn

Michelle Williams has always been a fine actress but in the last twelve to eighteen months she has really shown her prowess on the big screen.

She kicked off 2011 in fine style when she teamed up with Ryan Gosling for the superb Blue Valentine - a movie which secured her a Best Actress Oscar nomination.

The movie was directed by Derek Cianfrance and followed the evolution of a young married couple’s relationship over the years.

This was a very painful depiction of a rather toxic marriage and yet both Williams and Gosling delivered touching and, at times, totally heart wrenching performances.

With the actors delivering such stunning performances it came as no surprise when the movie was met with critical acclaim.

Williams received a whole host of nominations for her performance not just by the Academy but also from the Golden Globes, Satellite Awards, Chicago Film Critics Association Awards and the Independent Spirit Awards.

And that success looks set to be repeated with her new project My Week With Marilyn, in which she will play Marilyn Monroe.

The movie and her central performance are already being raved about and don’t be surprised should she be battling it out for a whole host of gongs come the awards season.

The movie sees Simon Curtis in the director’s chair and is based on two books written by Colin Clark which told of his time whilst working on the movie The Prince and the Showgirl.

Williams is joined by an excellent cast in the movie as Eddie Redmayne, Kenneth Branagh Judi Dench and Emma Watson also star.

My Week With Marilyn follows Colin Clark, an employee of Sir Laurence Olivier's, who documents the tense interaction between Olivier and Marilyn Monroe during production of The Prince and the Showgirl.

It is a truly captivating performance from Williams as Monroe as she embodies her strength as well as her frailties.

Don’t be surprised if we see Williams feature heavily during the awards season - could this year finally be the one where she gets her hand on an Oscar?

Away from My Week With Marilyn the actress is already working on her next project which is Oz: The Great and Powerful.

The movie is directed by Sam Raimi and sees Williams team up with Mila Kunis, James Franco and Rachel Weisz.

My Week With Marilyn is released 25th November.
