Natalie Wood

Natalie Wood

Natalia Zacharenko is better known to you and me as Natalie Wood and was a successful child actor who made a transition into an adult acting career.

She is best known for her roles in Rebel Without A Cause, Splendor in the Grass and Love with the proper Stranger but her private life was also subject of gossip.

Robert Wagner was a star of film and television but it was his signing on at Fox in the early fifties that were to bring him high profile roles that would propel him to stardom.

She met Robert Wagner at the age of ten, he was eighteen, but she went on her first date with the actor eight years later when she was eighteen and he was twenty six.

The pair married just a year later in 1957 but were to separate in 1961, divorcing in 1862, due to Wagner's hostility towards Wood's friends as well as facing financial issues.

Their careers at this time were struggling as the likes of Paul Newman and Marlon Brando were overtaking him and Wood's contract with Warner Bros was suspended for over a year due to her refusing to film in England.

The actress embarked on a three year relationship with British producer Richard Gregson marrying in 1969. The couple went on to have their first child Natasha in 1970 however the marriage didn't last much longer as Wood discovered that he was having an affair with her secretary.

But the actresses career throughout the sixties was going well as she was Oscar nominated in 1961 and 1963 for Splendor in the Grass and Live with the Proper Stranger and Golden Globe nominated in 1962 and 1965 for Gypsy and Inside Daisy Clover.

After her second divorce Wood reconciled with Wager, who too was remarried and divorced with a daughter, and the pair married for the second time in 1972.

But for many years there have been rumours about the sting of men that Wood had had flings with over the years including director Nicholas Ray, director of Rebel Without A Cause, when she was just sixteen years old.

She has also been linked with Dennis Hopper, Michael Caine, Scott Marlowe and had brief relationships with Steve McQueen and Elvis.

Despite being married to Wagner there were rumours that the actress also had an affair with Christopher Walken in 1981. But she stayed with Wager until her death in 1981 at the age of forty three.
