Carey Mulligan has gone for Doctor Who actress to possible Oscar contender overnight and has just been named as one of the contender for the Orange Rising Star Award.

The Orange Rising Star gong is the single award that is voted for by the public and Brit actress Mulligan is leading the pack.

It’s been a great few months for the actress all due to her performance in An Education which has grabbed the attention of critics and film lovers that has propelled her to fame.

She has already won the British Independent Film Award for best Actress as well as leading the British charge at the Golden Globes she now turns her attention back to home awards.

As well as being nominated for the Orange Rising Star she could also find herself in the Best Actress category for her performance, nominations to follow.

But she isn’t the only Brit who has been nominated as Nicholas Hoult has also bagged a nod. The twenty year old shot to fame in About A Boy before moving onto hit teen TV show Skins.

However he is set to return to the big screen next month with A Single Man, which stars Colin Firth, before trying his hand at the big budget blockbuster Clash of the Titans.

Kristen Stewart shot to fame as Bella Swan in the Twilight; New Moon dominated the box office towards the end of last year.

With Eclipse, the third book to be adapted for the big screen, on the horizon for this summer and The Runaways also due for release Stewart looks set to find more box office success in the coming months.

Her Adventureland co-star Jesse Eisenberg has also been nominated after a successful 2009 with Adventureland and Zombieland under his belt.

The twenty seven year old also has The Social Network, an upcoming movie about the founding of Facebook, on the horizon.

And the fifth and final nominee comes in the form of Frenchman Tahar Rahim for his performance in A Prophet.

The actor takes on the role of a young Arab who is sent to a French prison in the movie which has done very well on the festival circuit; it has also been nominated for a Golden Globe.

He will next appear in The Eagle of the Ninth Gate later this year.

Noel Clarke was last year’s winner for his acting and directing work on Adulthood, the sequel to Kidulthood.

The winner will be announced 21st February.
