Melissa Leo In The Fighter

Melissa Leo In The Fighter

We may have heaped praise on the Best Supporting Actor nominees yesterday but today it’s the turn of the ladies - who have turned in some equally fine performances over the least twelve months.

Amy Adams - Since making her breakthrough with Junebug in 2005 Amy Adams has gone on to become one of the most in demand actresses currently working in Hollywood.

The Fighter sees her return to the Oscar fold as she picks up yet another nomination for her performance.

She puts in a great performance as Charlene Fleming the gutsy girl who finds herself in Micky’s corner.

Helena Bonham Carter - All of the central performances in The King’s Speech and Helena Bonham Carter’s performance is no exception as she takes on the role of Elizabeth.

It’s a very emotional performance from the British actress as her character supports her husband through his difficulties to help him become the king that everyone hopes that he will be.

Melissa Leo - Her performance in Frozen River really but Melissa Leo on the acting map a couple of years ago - a performance that earnt her an Oscar nomination.

This year could see her go one better and get her hands on the gong as she has already enjoyed huge success on the award circuit.

Much like co-star Amy Adams, Leo takes on a hard as nails character and it’s a two horse race between these two women for the Oscar.

Hailee Steinfeld - Hailee Steinfeld is another actress who has broke through this year with the latest movie from the Coen brothers.

The young actress more than holds her own against the high calibre cast that she stars alongside - which includes Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon and Josh Brolin.

She makes every scene her own and is a talent that we should all watch out for over the coming year - her career promises to be a good one.

Jacki Weaver - Jacki Weaver is already a huge acting star in her native Australia but the rest of the world have only just got a taste of her talent with her new movie Animal Kingdom.

Animal Kingdom is a grim and brutal thriller and Weaver’s performance is at its heart as the grandma from hell.

The winners will be announced 27th February
