Nick Frost in Shaun of the Dead

Nick Frost in Shaun of the Dead

Nick Frost is an actor, comedian and screenwriter who found fame at the end of the nineties with television show Spaced.

the show teamed him up with Simon Pegg for the first time - in what proved to be a successful partnership.

And the duo are back on the big screen this week with their new movie Paul - which is directed by Greg Mottola.

So to celebrate the release of the movie we take a look at some of Frost's most famous acting roles.

- Shaun of the Dead

Frost, along with Pegg, made his big screen debut in 2004 when he starred in Shaun of the Dead as Ed.

Written by Pegg and director Edgar Wright the movie follows Shaun, a man who decides to turn his moribund life around by winning back his ex-girlfriend, reconciling his relationship with his mother.

But before he can do all that he must deal with an entire community that has returned from the dead to eat the living.

The movie was a critical and commercial hit in the UK and went on to have success in America, despite a limited release.

Shaun of the Dead is now widely regarded as one of the finest British movies of all time as it propelled both Frost and Pegg to fame.

- Hyperdrive

Throughout his career Frost has moved between movies and TV and he returned to the small screen in 2006 with Hyperdrive.

Created for the BBC Frost took on the character of Space Commander Michael "Mike" "Lucky Jack" "Hendo" Henderson.

Set in the year 2151 the crew of the HMS Camden Lock have and important mission: to protect the interests of Great Britain in and ever-changing galaxy.

The show went on to have two successful series.

- Hot Fuzz

Frost returned to the big screen and his partnership with Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright for action comedy Hot Fuzz.

Jealous colleagues conspire to get a top London cop transferred to a small town and paired with a witless new partner.

On the beat, the pair stumble upon a series of suspicious accidents and events.

Once again the partnership between Frost and Pegg worked a treat and the movie, much like Shaun of the Dead, enjoyed huge success, as well as critical praise, in the UK.

- The Boat That Rocked

Frost was part of the all star cast of The Boat That Rocked in 2009 - starring alongside Bill Nighy, Rhys Ifans and Phillip Seymour Hoffman.

In the 1960s a group of 8 rogue DJs on a boat in the middle of the Northern Atlantic, played rock records and broke the law all for the love of music.

The songs they played united and defined an entire generation and drove the British government crazy.

By playing rock 'n roll they were standing up against the British government who did everything in their power to shut them down.

Frost takes on the role of the hilarious DJ 'Doctor' Dave who tries to help Quentin's (Nighy) god son lose his virginity - only to sleep with the girl Tom had his eye on.

- Paul

But this weeks sees him back on the big screen as he reunites with Pegg for Paul  - a script that the duo also penned.

Directed by Greg Mottola the movie also stars Seth Rogen (as the voice of Paul), Jason Bateman, Sigourney Weaver and Kristen Wiig.

For the past 60 years, an alien named Paul has been hanging out at a top-secret military base.

For reasons unknown, the space-traveling smart ass decides to escape the compound and hop on the first vehicle out of town -- a rented RV containing Earthlings Graeme Willy and Clive Gollings.

Chased by federal agents and the fanatical father of a young woman that they accidentally kidnap, Graeme and Clive hatch a fumbling escape plan to return Paul to his mother ship.

And as two nerds struggle to help, one little green man might just take his fellow outcasts from misfits to intergalactic heroes.
