So we are taking a look at some of the movies that will be lighting up the big screen this festive period - and boy as we in for a treat.

- The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey - 14th Dec

If there is one movie that we have all been waiting for this year then it has been The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey as Peter Jackson takes up back to Middle Earth for the first time in nearly a decade.

The Lord of The Rings became a Christmas tradition at the beginning of the noughties and The Hobbit trilogy looks set to follow in its footsteps.

Martin Freeman takes over the role of Bilbo Baggins this time around as he joins a band of dwarves who are on a quest to reclaim their stolen treasure from dragon Smaug.

Benedict Cumberbatch, Luke Evans, Richard Armitage and James Nesbitt are some of the new faces on the cast list while Ian McKellan, Andy Serkis and Cate Blanchett are some of the familiar faces reprising characters.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is set to be one of the biggest movies of the year and kick off another epic trilogy from Oscar winning director Peter Jackson.

- Life of Pi - 20th Dec

Ang Lee is another Oscar winning filmmaker who is back in the director's chair this Christmas with his new movie Life Of Pi.

The movie is a big screen adaptation of the novel by Yann Martel and promises to be one of the most visually stunning movies of the year.

Life Of Pi follows the story of a young man’s incredible survival at sea against almost impossible odds.

16 year old Pi is the only survivor when a freight ship is sunk in a storm - killing his family - he finds himself on a lifeboat with an Orangutan, Hyena, a wounded Zebra, and a Bengal tiger.

The film will introduce us to new acting talent Suraj Sharma as he makes his big screen debut in the lead role of Pi.

- Pitch Perfect - 21st Dec

It you are looking for some comedy on the big screen this December then look no further than Pitch Perfect.

Anna Kendrick is back in the Jason Moore directed music/comedy/romance as two groups go head to head.

Beca (Kendrick) is that girl who’d rather listen to what’s coming out of her headphones than what’s coming out of you.

Arriving at her new college, she finds herself not right for any clique but somehow is muscled into one that she never would have picked on her own: alongside mean girls, sweet girls and weird girls whose only thing in common is how good they sound when they sing together, in the new out-loud comedy Pitch Perfect.

When Beca takes this acoustic singing group out of their world of traditional arrangements and perfect harmonies into all-new mash-ups, they fight to climb their way to the top of the cutthroat world of college a cappella.

- Jack Reacher - 26th Dec

Jack Reacher is the big boxing day movie as Tom Cruise is once again kicking some ass as he brings the Lee Child created character to life.

He is joined on the cast list Rosamund Pike, Richard Jenkins, Jai Courtney and David Oyelowo while Christopher McQuarrie is in the director's chair.

This is the first film for McQuarrie since The Way Of The Gun back in 2000 as he has continued with his screen writing career.

When a gunman takes five lives with six shots, all evidence points to the suspect in custody.

On interrogation, the suspect offers up a single note: 'Get Jack Reacher!' So begins an extraordinary chase for the truth, pitting Jack Reacher against an unexpected enemy, with a skill for violence and a secret to keep.

- Midnight's Children - 26th Dec

Midnight's Children has been lighting up the festival circuit and it will be hitting the big screen on Boxing Day.

Deepa Mehta is in the director's chair and the movie is based on Salman Rushdie's novel of the same name.

Born on the cusp of India’s independence from Britain and switched at birth by a maternity nurse in a secret act of protest, Saleem Sinai’s fate is not only inextricably bound to the future of his country, but also to that of Shiva, the boy whose place of privilege he takes.

Following a traumatic incident, Saleem discovers he has special powers and is able to communicate with other children who share his auspicious birthday.

As the outside world become more chaotic, wielding his new-found magic becomes Saleem’s most powerful tactic for navigating the tumultuous course of history.
