The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games

Another movie that has been causing a whole host of excitement in recent weeks is The Hunger Games, as the trailer premiered last month.

Jennifer Lawrence has had a superb 2011 with an Oscar nominated performance in Winter’s Bone before showing that she could also step into a big budget blockbuster X-Men: First Class.

She returns in March with her new movie The Hunger Games, a big screen adaptation of the popular novel by Suzanne Collins.

Lawrence will take on the much loved character of Katniss Everdeen in what looks set to be a very physically demanding role for the young actress.

Gary Ross is in the director’s chair while an all star cast joins Lawrence - including Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Banks, Liam Hemsworth, Stanley Tucci, Woody Harrelson and Donald Sutherland.

I told you it was an impressive line-up of acting talent!!

Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games.

Part twisted entertainment, part government intimidation tactic; the Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains.

Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy.

If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

If the trailer is anything to go by The Hunger Games promises to be an action packed ride and will be a great break from all the Oscar contenders that will be gracing the screen over the coming months.

The Hunger Games is released 23rd March
