The King's Speech

The King's Speech

The Oscars may still be months away but The King's Speech seems to already be a frontrunner after winning over critics and audiences at the Toronto International Film Festival last week.

The movie is the last project from Colin Firth, who is also being tipped for a Best Actor Academy Award, which sees him team up with The Damned United filmmaker Tom Hooper.

The King's Speech boasts an all star cast as Firth is joined by Helena Bonham Carter, Geoffrey Rush, Guy Pearce and Michael Gambon.

The movie tells the story of the man who became King George VI, the father of Queen Elizabeth II. After his brother abdicates, George ('Bertie') reluctantly assumes the throne.

Plagued by a dreaded stutter and considered unfit to be king, Bertie engages the help of an unorthodox speech therapist named Lionel Logue.

Through a set of unexpected techniques, and as a result of an unlikely friendship, Bertie is able to find his voice and boldly lead the country into war.

The King's Speech is released 7th January. Take a look at the first trailer for the movie.
