Love them or hate them chick flicks and teen idols are growing ever popular with an audience of cinema goers and DVD addicts and to celebrate the release of new teen flick Surviving Summer featuring Hilary Duff out on DVD from the 21st June we thought we would take a look at  the top 10 teen flicks of all time... enjoy!

10. The Princess Diaries (2001)

Starring Sound of Music star Julie Andrews; The Princess diaries tells the tale of Mia, an awkward San Francisco teenager who has just learned her deceased father was the crown prince of Genovia.

To keep the royal reigns from passing to another family due to a broken bloodline, the queen seeks the favor of her estranged granddaughter in hopes that she will take her father's place as the crown princess.

While Mia contemplates her future, her grandmother insists on turning her from a social misfit to a lady fit for the throne. What these two discover about each other is that blood is more important than bloodlines.

9. Clueless (1995)

Clueless; starring Alicia Silverstone, Stacey Dash and Brittany Murphy, one of the original teen films is loosely based on Jane Austen's 1815 novel, Emma. Set in Beverly Hills and a nearby high school. It was written and directed by Amy Heckerling and produced by Scott Rudin.

Cher (Alicia Silverstone) and Dionne (Stacey Dash), both named after "great singers of the past that now do infomercials," are pampered upper-class girls who care less about getting good grades than wearing the right clothes and being as popular as possible.

But Cher also has an innate urge to help those less fortunate -- like the two introverted teachers she brings together ("negotiating" herself improved grades in the process) and new friend Tai (Brittany Murphy), who starts out a geek and ends up a Cher prodigy.

Cher also possesses her own sensitive side, and she is looking for the perfect boyfriend, whom she ends up finding where she least expected.

8.  Never Been Kissed (1999)

Drew Barrymore stars as a reporter who goes undercover to get the scoop on today's high schools. Known as "Josie Grossie" during her own high school years, she reluctantly agrees - re-living the humiliation, pain, and heartache she felt as a teenager. At the same time, she finds herself falling for a handsome teacher who has no idea she's undercover.

7. Cinderella Story (2004)

Another Hilary Duff classic, Cinderella Story follows the life of Samantha Montgomery after she loses her father to an earthquake and is forced to live in the attic while her evil stepmother and stepsisters treat her like, well, Cinderella actually!

With popular kids Austin Ames, Shelby Cummings, and their crew, then her house family, the only escapes she has are the Diner Staff, her best friend Carter, and an online buddy-Nomad. They both go to North Valley High and dream of going to Princeton.

Nomad finally asks her to the Halloween dance, where they meet, and she finds out Austin is Nomad. The masked Cinderella leaves at midnight leaving Nomad with one of his toughest quests ever.

Will Nomad find out Cinderella is nothing but a Diner girl and leave or will he accept Samantha for who she is and they will live happily ever after studying at Princeton? Who knows…
