Twilight Saga: Eclipse

Twilight Saga: Eclipse

As screaming Twilight fans get set to descend on UK cinemas for the release of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, LOVEFiLM asked its members to vote for the top love triangles in film.

The brooding chemistry of the Twilight stars left their mark on fans and put the trio in first place with 17 per cent of votes.

Of all the polls in all the world, Bogie and Co. walk into ours with 15 per cent of the vote for their passionate performances in 1942 Hollywood classic, Casablanca

Set against the dramatic backdrop of World War II the film starring Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman and Paul Henreid is arguably
one of Hollywood's most defining love triangles seen on the silver screen.

From classic romance to embarrassing consequence - Bridget Jones' Diary proved a firm favourite with film fans securing 14 per cent of the vote.

Bumbling Bridget played by Renée Zellweger finds her luck in love has changed after capturing the attention of Brits Hugh Grant and Colin Firth.

Love ahoy! In fourth place (10 per cent) is Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) unwillingly becomes Captain Jack Sparrow's (Johnny Depp) love interest.

But the lady turned pirate only has eyes for childhood sweetheart Will Turner (Orlando Bloom).  One of the easier love-triangles to solve...walk the plank Captain Jack!

Scarlett Johansson, Penelope Cruze and Javier Bardem become lovers in romantic drama Vicky Cristina Barcelona which comes fifth with eight per cent of the vote, followed by 2001's Pearl Harbour.

The explosive war-time love between Ben Affleck, Josh Hartnett and Kate Beckinsale brought tears to the nation's eyes, securing seven per cent of the vote.

Classic love story, Gone with the Wind starring screen icons Vivien Leigh, Clark Gable and Leslie Howard makes an appearance in seventh place (five per cent) and super-love conquers eighth and ninth place for Christian Bale, Aaron Eckhart and Maggie Gyllenhaal in The Dark Knight (four per cent) and in 2000's X-Men (two per cent) for Hugh Jackman, Famke Janssen and James
Marsden.

Finally crashing in at number ten is James Cameron's epic romance, Titanic, where Kate Winslet, Leonardo Di Caprio and Billy Zane are inconsiderately plunged into the icy waters during a turbulent three-way relationship. Grasping onto just one per cent of the vote - Jack really shouldn't have let go.

Film's Top Ten Love Triangles are:

1. Stewart, Pattinson, Lautner - The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009) - 17%

Helen Cowley, Editor at LOVEFiLM commented: "The love triangle is a staple of some of the best films ever made - but clearly none is as current as the phenomenon of Team Edward vs Team Jacob in their battle for Bella's affections throughout the Twilight films.

"To see it beat some of the all-time classics like Casablanca makes a huge statement on how rooted the trio has become in popular culture."

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is released 9th July
