Chinese Puzzle

Audrey Tautou has a very distinct style that separates her from other actresses with her playful, charm being portrayed in many of her on-screen characters.

In her latest film Chinese Puzzle, her typical look shifts towards a more American and simple style with black suits, white blouses and denim.

To celebrate the release of Chinese Puzzle, in cinemas Friday 20th June, we take a look at some of the most memorable and distinguished films Audrey has starred in and how her fashion changes with each character.

- Chinese Puzzle (2014)

This is the third of Cédric Klapisch popular trilogy and is the final time we see the lives of Xavier (Romain Duris), Wendy (Kelly Reilly), Isabelle (Cécile De France) and Martine (Audrey Tautou) being turned upside down.

Since the first film, Pot Luck, we’ve seen the characters age and so has their style. Martine has transformed from a traditional 90’s preppy student to a more relaxed style of jeans and blouses when she’s with her family.

However we also see Martine as a ruthless business woman in a black fitted suit, two style’s that are very different to Audrey’s off-screen trend.

- Amelie (2001)

Nominated for five Academy Awards, Amelie is arguably Audrey’s most recognised film and her character’s style makes this a memorable story.

A variety of green’s and red’s, along with polka dots make up Amelie’s outfits, portraying her childlike personality through her style.

- Mood Indigo (2014)

Similar to Amelie, Mood Indigo is a visionary and abstract love story, with the use of colours and style to portray the characters moods.

Chloe (Audrey Tautou) wears a lot of bright colours that matches her vivid personality.

This is very different to Martine’s style in Chinese Puzzle, however does share similarities to Audrey’s off-screen persona.

- Not on the Lips (2003)

Not on the Lips is a musical-comedy that follows the lives of a group of 1920’s French socialites. Due to this rich upper-class lifestyle, all the characters are dressed to the nines.

Huguette (Audrey Tautou) accessorises with hats and jewellery along with classy dresses and business attire, very different to any other style she has adopted.

- A Very Long Engagement (2004)

Set in World War One, a relentless woman is trying to find her fiancé that disappeared during the war. Audrey can be found in pea coats, long sleeves, and high-waisted skirts.

This modest look is very different from Audrey’s typical style, however does illustrate the fashion of that period perfectly.

Chinese Puzzle is out now.
