January kicks off the 2016 movie year in fine style and Creed is just one of the films that you cannot afford to miss over the next few weeks.

Creed

Creed

Creed is a movie that has already been winning over critics and audiences as Sylvester Stallone returns to the iconic role of Rocky Balboa... but we are not going to see the former World Heavyweight Champion in the ring this time around.

Creed sees Balboa become trainer and mentor to Adonis Johnson, the son of his friend and former rival Apollo Creed. The movie sees Michael B. Jordan take on the role of Adonis as he reunites with filmmaker Ryan Coogler.

I cannot wait to see Jordan and Stallone to share the screen together - Stallone has already picked up a Best Supporting Actor Golden Globe nomination for his performance. And you can see these two actors in action in these brand new clips from the film:

Creed marks the return of Coogler to the director's chair for only his second feature film of his career. The movie comes two years after the huge success of his debut Fruitvale Station and Creed is set to be the film that elevates his star further.

Coogler is one of the most exciting new filmmakers around and I cannot wait to see him put his own stamp on this story and on one of cinema's greatest characters.

Jordan and Stallone may take on the central roles of Adonis and Balboa, but they are joined by Tessa Thompson, Phylicia Rashad, Tony Bellew, and Graham McTavish.

Adonis Johnson (Jordan) never knew his famous father, world heavyweight champion Apollo Creed, who died before he was born. Still, there's no denying that boxing is in his blood, so Adonis heads to Philadelphia, the site of Apollo Creed's legendary match with a tough upstart named Rocky Balboa.

Once in the City of Brotherly Love, Adonis tracks Rocky (Stallone) down and asks him to be his trainer. Despite his insistence that he is out of the fight game for good, Rocky sees in Adonis the strength and determination he had known in Apollo - the fierce rival who became his closest friend. Agreeing to take him on, Rocky trains the young fighter, even as the former champ is battling an opponent more deadly than any he faced in the ring.

The Rocky franchise is one of the greatest sporting film series and Creed really is promising to be a great addition to that series.

Creed is released 15th January.
