Divergent

Divergent

Divergent is already one of the most talked about films of 2014, as it is the latest young adult novel to be adapted for the big screen.

Divergent is an adaptation of the popular and much loved novel of the same name by Veronica Roth; if you haven’t read the book yet then you really should check it out as it really is a fantastic read.

In the last couple of years we have seen a whole host of young adult novels made into films - some have been a rip-roaring success, while others have not captured the imagination of film lovers.

In 2012, we were introduced to the acting talent of Shailene Woodley, and with Divergent, we are going to see her star rocket even further as she takes on the central role of Tris Prior.

Woodley is joined by an all star cast list, as Theo James, Ray Stevenson, Kate Winslet, Zoe Kravitz, Maggie Q, Jai Courtney and Ashley Judd are also all on board; it is one of the best ensemble casts of the year.

Divergent is not only set to make Woodley a household name but it is also set to make a star of Theo James. The British actor will take on the role of Four, in what is the biggest movie and role of his career so far.

Divergent see Neil Burger return to the director’s chair for what is the fifth feature film of his film career to date. Burger has brought us movies such as The Illusionist and The Lucky Ones, and Divergent is his first film since the success of Limitless back in 2011.

While Burger quite regularly has a hand in the scripts that he directs but with Divergent, it is Evan Daugherty and Vanessa Taylor who had adapted the novel into a screenplay.

Divergent is a thrilling action-adventure set in a future world where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities. Tris Prior (Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group.

When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it’s too late.

Divergent is one of the movies that I am really looking forward to, as I am such a huge fans of Veronica Roth’s novels. I am excited to see how this world is translated on to the big screen and how the likes of Woodley and James bring these fascinating characters and relationships to life.

Divergent is the first in a trilogy of novels from Roth and this could be the start of a brand new series of movies.

Divergent is released 4th April 2014.
