The latest Ghostbuster trailer is already one of the most watched trailers of the year so far and is set to be one of the biggest films of the summer.

Ghostbusters

It was back in 1989 when Ghostbusters II hit the big screen and now the much-loved franchise is back with a new director, a new line-up, and is set to be one of the female-driven films of 2016 that is not to be missed.

Ghostbusters marks the return of Paul Feig to the director's chair for what will be his first feature film since the success of Spy last summer. As well as being in the director's chair, Feig has teamed up with Katie Dippold to pen the film's screenplay.

Feig is one of the best writers of female characters around - he has brought us films such as Bridesmaids, The Heat, and Spy - and I really cannot wait to see what he delivers with this big budget blockbuster. Ghostbusters is the biggest film project of his career to date.

The movie sees him reunite with leading ladies Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig as they take on the roles of Abby Yates and Erin Gilbert. This is the fourth film project with McCarthy and his second with Wiig.

McCarthy and Wiig were terrific together in Bridesmaids and it is exciting to see the pair share the screen again. Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones will be introduced as Jillian Holtzmann and Patty Tolan. Chris Hemsworth and Michael Kenneth Williams will complete the line-up.

30 years after Ghostbusters took the world by storm, the beloved franchise makes its long-awaited return. Director Paul Feig brings his fresh take to the supernatural comedy, joined by some of the funniest actors working today.

Over the last couple of years, we have seen female-driven movies enjoy huge box office success and Ghostbusters is set to be another to watch out for in 2016 - it also looks set to be one of the biggest.

Sadly, we are going to have to wait until July until the film finally hits the big screen, but there is already plenty of excitement building around the release.

I have always been a fan of the way Feig creates female characters and explores their relationships and it looks like that fine trend is set to continue with Ghostbusters. Of course, many of us still have huge affection for the originals but this new film is set to bring this franchise to a brand new generation.

While there has been much talk about cameos and possible appearances from some of the original cast members, but, at the moment, that is something still up in the air. I have my finger tightly crossed that we will see them in this film series one more time.

Ghostbusters is released 15th July.
