Jupiter Ascending is a sci-fi film that I have been looking forward to for some time and was super disappointed when the movie was removed from the 2014 release schedule and pushed back to the February of this year.

Jupiter Ascending

However, the long wait to see Jupiter Ascending is finally over and it is great to see Andy and Lana Wachowski back in the director's chair. The Wachowski's have delivered terrific movies such as The Matrix during their careers but this is their first film since their great adaptation of Cloud Atlas back in 2012. As well as being in the director's chair, the brother and sister duo have also penned this futuristic screenplay.

Jupiter Ascending is one of the first big science fiction movies that will hit the big screen in 2015, and it looks set to be another adventurous film from theWachowski's - it really does look like it is going to be a visual treat.

Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum will take on the central roles of Jupiter Jones and Caine, as they join forces on the big screen for the very first time. While Tatum is no stranger to the big budget blockbuster, this is not really a genre of film that we are use to seeing Kunis tackle - it is great to see her take on a major sci-fi leading role.

Kunis and Tatum lead an all-star cast, as Eddie Redmayne, Sean Bean, Terry Gilliam, Douglas Booth, James D'Arcy, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Tuppence Middleton are also on board.

From the streets of Chicago to the far-flung galaxies whirling through space, Jupiter Ascending tells the story of Jupiter Jones (Kunis), who was born under a night sky, with signs predicting she was destined for great things.

Now grown, Jupiter dreams of the stars but wakes up to the cold reality of a job cleaning other people's houses and an endless run of bad breaks.

Only when Caine (Tatum), a genetically engineered ex-military hunter, arrives on Earth to track her down does Jupiter begin to glimpse the fate that has been waiting for her all along - her genetic signature marks her as next in line for an extraordinary inheritance that could alter the balance of the cosmos.

Jupiter Ascending was a movie that was supposed to hit the big screen last summer and it is always a little worrying when a film unexpectedly gets pulled from the schedule. None the less, it is a film that I am still really looking forward to and it will be the first big event film of 2015.

Cloud Atlas remains my favourite film from Andy and Lana Wachowski - if you haven't had the chance to see it, you really should check it out - and I am looking forward to seeing them delve into the science fiction genre once again.

Jupiter Ascending is released 6th February.
