Pride

Pride

We are counting down the days until the release of Pride here at FemaleFirst, and there is only one week to go.

Pride is already being called one of the feel-good movies of the year, and I cannot wait to see this great cast in action.

We have already been treated to fantastic ensemble casts in 2014, and now we are going to get one more.

Bill Night, Andrew Scott, Imelda Staunton, Dominic West, George MacKay, and Paddy Considine are just some of the great names on board.

And it is Scott and Staunton who take centre stage this brand new clip from the film:

Matthew Warchus is back in the director's chair for his second feature film, while Stephen Beresford has penned the screenplay: this is his first script that has been made into a film.

Pride is set in the summer of 1984 - Margaret Thatcher is in power and the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) is on strike.

At the Gay Pride March in London, a group of gay and lesbian activists decides to raise money to support the families of the striking miners. But there is a problem. The Union seems embarrassed to receive their support.

But the activists are not deterred. They decide to ignore the Union and go direct to the miners. They identify a mining village in deepest Wales and set off in a mini bus to make their donation in person.

And so begins the extraordinary story of two seemingly alien communities who form a surprising and ultimately triumphant partnership.

Pride is released 12th September.
