Mad Max: Fury Road

Mad Max: Fury Road was named Film of the Year at the awards last night and George Miller was named Director of the Year. The film also celebrated a third award as Tom Hardy was named British/Irish Actor of the Year.

Hardy has had a busy year and was recognised for his performances in Mad Max: Fury Road, Legend, London Road, and The Revenant.

It was also a great night for 45 Years as it also scooped three awards; British/Irish Film of the Year, Actor of the Year and Actress of the Year for Tom Courtenay and Charlotte Rampling.

This home success of Rampling came just days after she picked up the first Oscar nomination of her career as she was recognised in the Best Actress category.

There was more awards success for Kate Winslet as she picked up a Supporting Actress of the Year gong for her performance as Joanna Hoffman in biopic film Steve Jobs. The latest award win comes a week after she triumphed at the Golden Globes; she also picked up a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination at the end of last week.

Mark Rylance and Saoirse Ronan picked up gongs as they were recognised in the Supporting Actor Of The Year and British/Irish Actress Of The Year for their performances in Bridge of Spies and Brooklyn.

Adding to its growing list of honours in the US, Asif Kapadia's home-grown Amy Winehouse portrait Amy took the award for Documentary of the Year. Among the films it beat was The Look of Silence: Joshua Oppenheimer's follow-up to The Act of Killing was instead named Foreign Language Film of the Year.

Actor and director Kenneth Branagh was also recognised as he was presented with the Dilys Powell Award for Excellence in Film by Judi Dench.
