Atonement Leads BAFTA Nominations

After the success at the Golden Globes, winnig Best Picture, British film Atonement leads teh BAFTA's with fourteen nominations including Best Film.Starrign Keira Knightley and James McAvoy, who have both been nominated in the Best Actor and Actress categories, as well as a Best Director nod for Joe Wright, Atonement is only his second feature.Following close behind is Oscar favourites There Will Be Blood and No Country For Old Men with nine nomination each and La Vie En Rose with seven. Two British actresses, keira Knightley and Julie Christie, will go head to head in the Best Actress category, a repeat of the Golden Globes, they are joined by Cate Blanchett, Marion Cotillard and Ellen Page.There is more British success in the Best Actor category with nominations for James McAvoy and Golden Globe winner Daniel Day Lewis, one of the favourites to scoop the Oscar next month, George Clooney, Viggo Mortensen and Ulrich Muehe finish off the group.There were no real surprises exceptSweeney Todd wasn't nominated in any of teh major categories despite it's double success of Best Film (Musical/Comedy) and Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy for Johnny Depp at the Golden Globes.Also missing was Sean Penn's into the Wild which has received rave reviews and is leading the Screen Actor Guild Award nominations. However it received just one Golden Globe nomination for Best Soundtrack.
