Atonement may have lost out at last month's Oscar ceremony but it picked up a trio of big awards, including Best British film, at last night's Empire Awards.The movie also won Best Actress and Best Actor for its two leads Keira Knightley, who beat off Cate Blanchett and Angelina Jolie, and James McAvoy, who triumphed over Matt Damon and Daniel Radcliffe.The Bourne Ultimatum took the Best Film award as rumours of a fourth movie for this unexpected hit rumbled on. There was more British success with Control, the biopic of Joy Divison's frontman Ian Curtis, as Sam Riley, who played Curtis, picked up Best Newcomer and the film too Best Soundtrack.Hot Fuzz picked up Best Comedy and 28 Weeks Later, the sequel to 28 Days Later, took Best Horror.There was also success for surprise autumn hit Stardust as it won Best Sci/Fi/Fantasy and Ridley Scott's American Gangster too Best Thriller.Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix's David Yates won best Director, beating off Paul Greengrass and Joe Wright.
