Alice In Wonderland

Alice In Wonderland

Alice In Wonderland blew away the competition this weekend to top the U.S. box office in spectacular style.

Tim Burton's latest fantasy film grossed over $116 million to topple Shutter Island from the number one spot.

Alice In Wonderland is Tim Burton's first movie since Sweeney Todd back in 2008, the film is also his seventh project with leading man Johnny Depp.

Depp leads an impressive cast of Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, Charlie Sheen and Alan Rickman whilst introducing Mia Wasikowska.

There was a second new entry at two in the form of cop drama Brooklyn's Finest but with a $13.5 million gross it was a long way behind the box office leader.

Shutter Island dropped two places to this week's three while there was also a two place drop for comedy Cop Out.

This week saw two 3D movies inside the top five as Avatar just dropped one place from four to round off the big five movies of the week.

The Crazies and Dear John were this weeks biggest fallers as they both dropped two places; The Crazies fell from three to six while Dear John moved down from seven to this week's ten.

With all the Crazy Heart talk this weekend the Jeff Bridges movie, which he did go on and win Best Actor for, moved up one place to number nine.
