Andy Serkis has revealed that Gollum will look slightly different in The Hobbit as the process used to develop the character is improving all the time.

The actor is set to reprise the role of Gollum in The Hobbit trilogy and will be taking on the role for the first time in almost ten years.

The actor really helped put motion capture acting on the map with The Lord of the Rings and he says that there are always elements of the character's look that can be improved.

Speaking to Empire Serkis said: "Of course, skin texturing and hair is improving all the time. It will be more detailed.

"The challenge always gets greater - the audience's eyes becomes better trained. While to the Weta eye there is always room for improvement."

As well as acting in the movie Serkis will also serve as second unit director on the trilogy.

The movie reunites Serkis with Jackson, who he went on to work with on King Kong and The Adventures of Tintin - where Jackson was producer.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is released 14th December.
