Andy Serkis

Andy Serkis has revealed that he is 'totally blown away' by his Bafta nomination.

The actor received a Best Actor nod when the nominations were announced yesterday for his role in Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll.

He takes on the role of rocker Ian Dury in a biopic about his rise to fame and battle with disability.

Speaking to The Mirror he said: "The whole experience of making this film with such amazingly talented, articulate, honest people has been a joy, and to get this nomination is not only a great thrill for all of us involved, but a fitting tribute at a time that we mark the ten-year anniversary of the passing of the magnificent man himself, the unique Ian Dury."

But Serkis faces some tough competition in the Best Actor category with Colin Firth, George Clooney, Jeff Bridges and Jeremy Renner.

And the British movies and talent did well at the Bafta nominations with the likes of An Education and Nowhere Boy receiving a string of nods.

Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll is out now.
