Angels and Demons

Ron Howard faced difficulties when filming his new movie Angels and Demons when the Vatican reportedly banned them from filming in Catholic Church's holy building.

The film is the sequel to The Da Vinci Code, which caused outrage amongst religious groups when it was released and Angels and Demons looks set to ignite a similar reaction.

Due for release in May next year the project reunites Howard with leading man Tom Hanks, who returns as Robert Langdon, who tries to halt a plot to destroy the Vatican and interrupt the choosing of a new Pope.

Despite the religious protests that surrounded Da Vinci Code, an adaptation of Dan Brown's popular novel, in 2006 the film was a commercial hit grossing over $758 million at the global box office, the second highest grossing movie of the year worldwide.

Because some of the controversial interpretations of Christian history the film was criticised by the Catholic Church with some calls to boycott the film.
