Batman 3 will begin filming next March according to the Los Angeles Times.

The movie had already been scheduled for a summer 2012 release but there had been no word on when shooting would commence on the third film in the popular franchise.

But Geoff Bucher, a reporter for the Times, revealed that he was to interview Christopher Nolan at the weekend and wrote on his blog: "The future looks fascinating for this 39-year-old auteur, and I plan to ask him about the third Batman film, which starts shooting in March."

This is good news for all Batman fans as they future of the franchise looked uncertain back in 2008/9 when it was unclear if Nolan would return to the director's chair.

David Goyer, who penned Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, is working on the script, a story that is being kept underwraps.

But last week it emerged that Joseph Gordon Levitt has been linked to the role of The Riddler, a part that Eddie Murphy and Johnny Depp had been tipped to play in the past.

But what Nolan did admit was that the role of The Joker would not be recast after the death of Heath Ledger back in 2008.

The Dark Knight was a huge box office success, breaking through the $1 billion barrier, and earning Ledger a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his performance.
