Carey Mulligan

Carey Mulligan has revealed that she is embarrassed by the comparisons between her and cinema icon Audrey Hepburn.

The British actress shot to fame last year with her role in An Education, a role which has resulted in an Oscar nomination.

Despite all the success that has come her way in recent weeks on the awards circuit the actress is uncomfortable with the links to Hepburn.

Speaking to Contactmusic the actress said: I've always been so embarrassed by that comparison. You feel like Shrek compared to Audrey Hepburn.

"It's a really nice comparison, but it just seems so mad."

Mulligan has won over audiences and critics with her performance and has picked up awards at the British Independent Film Awards and National Board of Review as well as picking up Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild nominations.

And while she has enjoyed all of this awards attention she was still shocked to receive an Oscar nod on Tuesday: "It was like a really good, friendly punch in the stomach. It's a good feeling, but it's like a jolt.

"You can be in as many top-five lists and have as many people say things to you on red carpets as you like, and it doesn't for a single second make you honestly think that you're going to get nominated."

The Oscar winners are announced 7th March.
