Carey Mulligan wants to move away from lead roles.

The actress shot to fame last year for her central role in coming of age drama An Education but the British actress says she hates the pressure that comes with a leading role.

Speaking to Interview magazine she said: "I don't think I want to play title roles. I don't want to be the face on the poster.

"I don't want the pressure of having a film's success ride on my shoulders.

"I just want to play the most interesting parts and it's increasingly rare to get an interesting female character that is the lead in a film. An Education was an exception - parts like that are so rare."

For her role in An Education the actress went on to bag her first Best Actress Academy Award nomination, losing out to Sandra Bullock.

And a supporting role is what is coming her way next as she joins Michael Douglas, Shia LaBeouf and Josh Brolin n Oliver Stone's Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.

She will also star alongside Keira Knightley and Sally Hawkins in the Mark Romanek directed movie Never Let Me Go.
