Chris Evans believes that Avengers Assemble would not have been possible if Robert Downey Jr had not been involved.

Evans reprises the role of Captain America in the movie while Downey Jr and Chris Hemsworth are also back as Iron Man and Thor - we are introduced to Jeremy Renner & Mark Ruffalo as Hawkeye and the Hulk.

But Evans believes that if it hadn't have been for the success of Iron Man and Downey Jr in that role then Avengers Assemble would not have happened

Speaking on Good Morning America the actor said: "I kind of give a lot of credit to [Robert] Downey [Jr]. He's kind of the father of this group.

"If he hadn't done so well with those Iron Man movies, I don't think this movie would have happened."

"He came to the set with such a positive attitude and has such a great demeanour. We all kind of fell in line as a result of his disposition. He's just an amazing guy and he made it a really family atmosphere right away."

Avengers Assemble has become the biggest opening superhero movie at the UK box office this weekend as it took over £15 million.

The movie is winning over fans and critics around the world on it's first week of review and opens in the U.S. at the end of this week.
