Chris Pine

Chris Pine says that Star Trek Into Darkness is about his character earning the position of captain.

Pine is set to return to the role of James T. Kirk in the second of J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek movies and he is now captain of the Enterprise.

Speaking to Empire the actor said: "His journey is more metaphysical. He’s making decisions and thinking he’s doing good, but he’s not taking into account the effects they have.

"His are the decisions of a young, raw, inexperienced, irresponsible leader. Where the first film was about him getting the chair, this is about him earning it."

The movie sees Pine reunite with director J. J. Abrams while the likes of Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana will also be returning.

The early trailer for the movie promises plenty and it looks like it is going to be bigger and better than its predecessor.

As for Pine he has a busy 2013 ahead as he is just completing filming on Jack Ryan - which is out Boxing Day - while Mantivities is also on the horizon.

Star Trek Into Darkness is released 17th May.
