Colin Firth

Colin Firth believes that his career has just peaked.

The British star collected the Best Actor award at last night Oscars, as everyone expected, as he saw off the challenge from Jeff Bridges, James Franco, Javier Bardem and Jesse Eisenberg.

Picking up his award the actor said: "I have a feeling my career's just peaked. My deepest thanks to the Academy."

"I'm afraid I have to warn you that I'm experiencing stirrings somewhere in the upper abdominals which are threatening to form themselves into dance moves - which, joyous as they may be for me, would be extremely problematic if they make it to my legs before I go offstage."

The award comes just twelve months after he picked up his first Oscar nomination for his performance in A Single Man.

He has been the toast of Hollywood during this awards season winning the Golden Globe, SAG and Bafta.

It was a great night all round for The King's Speech as it went on to win Best Picture, Best Director for Tom Hooper and Best Original Screenplay.
