David Oyelowo admits that he really enjoyed the stunt work aspect of making new movie Jack Reacher.

The British actor teams up with Tom Cruise, Rosamund Pike, Robert Duvall and Richard Jenkins to bring the Lee Child novel to life.

And the actor underwent weapons and driving training as he prepared to star in the action blockbuster.

Speaking to the Press Association the actor said: "I'm a boy, you know. I would do that stuff for free, let alone to do it opposite Tom Cruise," he joked.

"That's the fun stuff. It required a fair bit of training - gun training, how to drive those cars at speed on wet roads and try not to kill anyone, which nearly happened a few times."

"There were big action-set pieces and cinematic moments, but the reason why you became an actor is not to just be driving fast cars, although that is a lot of fun.

"It's to portray human beings in situations where they are talking to each other. You have both things in this movie."

And we are going to be seeing more of Oyelowo on the big screen into the new year as he is set to appear in Lincoln and The Paperboy.

He has also completed work on Default, Complicit. Nina and The Butler.

Jack Reacher is released 26th December.
