David Tennant

A Doctor Who movie has been confirmed by BBC Films.

The longstanding sci-fi show is the flagship programme for Saturday night BBC One since making it's return in 2005 with Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper.

The BBC announced that current Time Lord David Tennant was to make a special appearance in spin off show The Sarah Jan Adventures before going on to say that 'a script was in development'.

Infomation beyond that is very sketchy it is unknown whether executive producer, and man behind the show's return, Russell T. Davis is writing the script. Davies will leave the show after completing the specials with Tennant and Steven Moffat will be taking over.

Also which actor will be playing the Time Lord wasn't announced. David Tennant will leave the role at the end of the year after playing the Doctor for almost five years.

He has been replaced by up and coming star Matt Smith, who will appear in the show in 2010.

This new comes just days after it was announced that rival ITV show Primeval will also be getting the big screen treatment.
