Elijah Wood is set to star in his first TV series in the U.S. remake of hit Aussie comedy Wilfred.
Family Guy creator David Zuckerman has adapted the bizarre series, about a jealous boyfriend, played by Wood, who imagines his girlfriend's dog is a man in costume.
The Lord of the Rings actor will star alongside Jason Gann, the co-creator of the Aussie version, who will reprise his role as the mutt.
Zuckerman describes Gann's character as "part Labrador retriever and part Russell Crowe on a bender".
Production on the Wilfred pilot is scheduled to begin this summer (10).
The actor hasn't been seen on the big screen since The Oxford Murders back in 2008 but did lend his voice to the animation movie 9 last year.
But he does have The Romantics and The Passenger, in which he plays Iggy Pop, in the pipeline before returning to animation to voice the character of Mumble in Happy Feet 2.
