Elijah Wood

Elijah Wood has come to the defence of movie The Hobbit that is currently caught up in animal welfare accusations.

It is claimed that twenty seven animals died during the production of the movie and that they had awful living conditions.

However Wood, who is reprising the role of Frodo Baggins in the movie, says that the animals were well looked after on the set.

Speaking to TMZ the actor said: "I never saw any of those conditions when I was down there...

"All of the technicians who worked on the film take the utmost care of the animals."

All of the allegations have been denied by Peter Jackson and others involved with the movie.

As for Wood he is set to cameo in the film as he returns to the role that be played for the first time back in 2001.

He is not the only face from The Lord of the Tings trilogy that is back as Ian McKellan, Andy Serkis, Cate Blanchett and Hugo Weaving will also be returning.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is released 14th December.
