The BFI London Film Festival opened with a bang last night as Tim Burton graced the red carpet to promote his new movie Frankenweenie.

The stop motion animation movie had the honour of opening the 56th festival in London and Burton was joined on the red carpet by Helen Bonham Carter.

And we are going to be seeing more of Carter later on in the festival as her new film Great Expectations will bring proceedings to a close in eleven days time.

Frankenweenie is a remake of Burton's own short film of the same name from the late eighties and sees him return to stop motion animation for the first time since The Corpse Bride.

Burton was joined on the red carpet by members of the voice cast including Catherine O'Hara, Martin Short and Martin Landau.

The movie reunited the actor with O'Hara after they worked together on Beetlejuice at the beginning of his career.

New director of the BFI Film Festival Clare Stewart was also on the red carpet last night.

Frankenweenie is released 17th October. Take a look at some of the images from the evening here.
