Gabourey Sidibe

Gabourey Sidibe refuses to move to Los Angeles to boost her burgeoning career - because she fears work will take over her life if she lived in Hollywood.

The 26-year-old star has earned high praise for her first film role in last year's (09) Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire.

But Sidibe insists on staying put in New York and is refusing to even hire a publicist to help steer her career in the right direction since her rapid rise to fame.

She explains, "I don't want one (a publicist)... Because of the work here (in Hollywood), I look at L.A. as an office building. I live in Manhattan now."

Her breakthrough role has landed her an Oscar nomination for Best Acress alongside Sandra Bullock, Meryl Streep, Carey Mulligan and Helen Mirren.

She has already won the Detroit Film Critics Society and Florida Film Critics Circle Awards for Best Actress as well as picking up Best Breakthrough at the National Board of Review.

Yelling to the Sky is the next project in the pipeline for the actress.
