Gary Ross will not be returning for The Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire.
The adaptation of the Suzanne Collins novel has dominated the global box office since it was released last month that the sequel will be going ahead later this year.
However Ross will not be returning to the director’s chair instead opting to direct a project that he has written himself rather than taking on the franchise once again.
Jennifer Lawrence will reprise the role of Katniss Everdeen while Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson are also set to return.
There Hunger Games has so far taken in excess of $397 million at the global box office and has been a critical smash as well as a commercial hit.
There is also talk that the final two movies Catching Fire and Mockingjay will be shot back to back
The Hunger Games is out now
