Jackie Earle Haley reveals that he is happy to be 'second place Freddy'.

Haley takes over the role of Freddy Kruger in his new movie The Nightmare on Elm Street, a role that was made famous by Robert Englund.

And the Oscar nominated actor knows that many fans of the horror series will always see Englund as Kruger.

Speaking at the premiere of the movie he said: "This is like comparing apples and oranges, a lot of that hardcore base are going to have a hard time that it isn't Robert Englund, how do you compare?"

"You can't because it's one movie versus decades of developing a cultural icon."

"For me, I'm just thrilled to get to step in and play the role. I'm perfectly happy to be second-place Freddy, it's not a competition but I think we did a great job of making this movie."

It's bee a very successful twelve months for the actor having found box office success with Watchmen and Shutter Island.

Nightmare on Elm Street is released 7th May.
