Jake Gyllenhaal

Jake Gyllenhaal's positive message.

The actor swaps his dramatic roles for the big budget blockbuster next week as he leads the cast in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, based on the popular computer game.

The moral lesson of this movie, for Dastan, is to follow his own heart

And while the movie is action and CGI the actor believes that the film send a very positive message of following our own heart and beliefs.

Speaking to iesb.net the actor said: "Yeah. Specifically for the character of Dastan, he was an orphan and he was brought into the royal family by the King because of a good deed that he did and because he was pure of heart when he did this deed.

"A lot of things threaten us, all the time, and we tend to not listen to our own hearts, to make choices that are about you what other people think is cool or what other people say is cool.

"The moral lesson of this movie, for Dastan, is to follow his own heart and influence other peoples around him, like his brothers and his family, to follow theirs too.

"When you do, and when he does, and he helps the other people around him, it all works out for the best.

"Ultimately, it’s not painless, but it’s for the best. And, I hope that kids and families can take away that, if they listen to their heart, they’ll never really go wrong.

After making his name in movies such as Donnie Darko, Brokeback Mountain and Rendition this is the first major action role of Gyllenhaal as Jerry Bruckehimer hopes to do for the computer game influenced movie what he did for the pirate genre.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is released 21st May.
