James Franco

James Franco has admitted that he was feeling the pressure when it came to the scene in 127 Hours where his character cuts off his own arm.

We knew this would be the scene that everybody would be anticipating anxiously

The actor takes on the role of Aron Rolston as director Danny Boyle brings his remarkable true story to the big screen in the new year.

Rolston trapped his arm under a boulder during a climb in Utah. With no one knowing about the trip Rolston struggled for six days to free himself before cutting his arm off.

Speaking to MSN movies the actor said: We knew this would be the scene that everybody would be anticipating anxiously but also kind of wanting to see.

"It was a balancing act. It was finding the middle road between showing too much and not showing enough and shortchanging the story and the experience."

"That act was like a portal for Aron to go through, and the audience, to have the full experience, needs to go through that portal with him."

127 Hours is already winning over the critics on the festival circuit and there is already Oscar talk surrounding the movie, Boyle and Franco himself.

127 Hours is released 7th January.
