James Franco

James Franco is rumoured to be taking over the Bourne franchise.

However the 127 Hours actor will not be taking over the role of Jason Bourne, made famous by Matt Damon, but instead the series will follow a new spy.

Tony Gilroy has penned the script for the movie and had revealed to Showbiz 411 that he couldn't re-cast Damon's role.

"I couldn't imagine trying to replace him. All the conspiratorial politics aside, these are very uncynical, honest movies, and I don't know another actor who brings more integrity and dignity, and a lack of cynicism, to his work than Matt."

Matt Damon revealed that he would not return to the franchise if Paul Greengrass, who directed the second and third Bourne movies, was not in the director's chair.

But Greengrass decided not to return to the franchise and Gilroy is now set to direct the film.

It's been a busy year for Franco as his new movie 127 Hours, in which he teams up with Danny Boyle, is already surrounded in Oscar whispers.

Your Highness is awaiting release and he has completed filming on Rise of the Apes and has Madadies and The Broken Tower in the pipeline.
