James McAvoy is to play Charles Xavier in X-Men: First Class.
The Scottish actor has landed the role of the younger Professor X, according to Heat Vision, in the prequel movie that looks at the early year of Xavier and Eric Lensherr (Magneto) as well as some other familiar members.
Patrick Stewart has played the character of Xavier for the three X-men movie, all of which enjoyed huge success at the box office, as well as appearing at the end of X:Men origins: Wolverine.
Wolverine was the first spin off for the series, and a second movie is already in the pipeline.
Matthew Vaughn is to direct X-Men: First Class, after pulling out of X:Men: The Last Stand.
McAvoy was last seen on the big screen in The Last Station and has The Conspirator and Gnomeo and Juliet in the pipeline this year..
He has also been cast in Wanted 2, a sequel to the hit 2008 movie that also starred Angelina Jolie.
