James Purefoy had to endure a string of injuries whilst filming his latest movie Solomon Kane.

The British actor takes on the sword swinging central character of Kane in the new movie, a man looking for redemption.

Speaking to the Press Association the actor said: "I had seven stitches put into the top of my head where somebody tried treating me like a boiled egg with a sword - and the following week, I put a blade through somebody's cheek.

"He moved his head at exactly the wrong moment - it was meant to go into his neck and went into his cheek - and he said he could feel the tip of it on his tongue."

Despite the injuries that he sustained the actor admitted that he hasn't been put off doing his own stunts.

"We all went into this film knowing you're going to get injured. This is swords up close, personal and in your face," he said.

"When people are flying swords around and you want it to look real, you want it to come as close to you as you possibly can. Sometimes you misjudge it.

"It's not a big deal, you do know you're going to get injured, it's just a matter of how much and how long before you get back on set to continue."

Solomon Kane is released 19th February.
