James Purefoy has revealed that it was Clint Eastwood that inspired him to take on the role of Solomon Kane, as well as comparing the acting icon to his latest character.

The British actor leads the cast in the big screen movie based on the character created by Robert E. Howard in 1928.

Speaking to The Press Association the actor said: "When I was growing up, I watched a lot of Clint Eastwood films and it seemed this man was cut from the same cloth as The Man With No Name - he's iconic, he's reticent, terse, doesn't give much away about himself and he expresses himself from the tip of his sword, through action rather than words."

"He's a British action hero - we don't have many British action heroes. We have James Bond, Harry Potter and Mr Bean, but as far as franchises are concerned, we don't have many.

"It's really exciting launching a new action hero on the public. And he's from the West Country where I come from."

Solomon Kane is out now.
